The efficiency of any structure depends on how well its elements are designed. Among these elements, the slab system plays a critical role, as it transfers loads from the top surface through to the entire structure. Choosing the right slab system not only reduces structural weight but also helps save on construction and execution costs.
Leveraging modern computer-aided tools in slab design ensures higher accuracy, speed, and compliance with code requirements. In this context, SIDA Structure has developed SIDA Floor, a specialized software for the design and detailing of waffle slabs, as well as one-way and two-way slabs.
The workflow is straightforward:
- The slab is first modeled in CSI SAFE.
- The model is exported in .mdb format and then imported into SIDA Floor.
- The software automatically arranges waffle molds (for waffle slabs), designs flexural and shear reinforcement for slab strips, and finally produces detailed project drawings in AutoCAD format.
Precision in Strip Design
Each strip is designed with high accuracy according to the user’s selected design code. To ensure cost-effective reinforcement:
- Minimum reinforcement is calculated considering all design stations.
- Additional reinforcement is then determined automatically.
- Exact rebar cut positions are computed based on zero-moment points, development length, and anchorage requirements.
SIDA Floor also allows the user to apply practical detailing rules, adjusting calculated reinforcement to meet constructability standards. Strip design can be performed individually or in groups, depending on project needs.
Cross-Sections & Detailing
Users can define slab sections at any station:
- Select the desired strip from the plan.
- Choose the cut location.
- SIDA Floor automatically extracts data on continuous rebars, additional reinforcement at the chosen point, and mold dimensions, then produces the drawing.
- At the end of the process, a fully editable AutoCAD output file is generated.
